  • Technical Troubleshooting Simulation Challenges in GPS-X
  • From time to time, user can run into challenges while running GPS-X simulation.
  • The 3 most common challenges are all things that the user can troubleshoot, if they know where to look.
  • Steady-state convergence
  • Most users solve their models for steady state prior to starting a dynamic simulation. Steady-state solver predicts behaviour of plant as if its been running for weeks at a constant loading/ operation.
  • Trouble reading in data
  • One of the main features of GPS-X is the ability to import data to drive input, or to plot alongside model output.
  • PID controller behaviour (not meeting setpoint)
  • Often controllers can fail to achieve their setpoint for reasons that might not be obvious at first glance, often these are due to unintentional settings that can be adjusted to quickly solve the problem.
  • Incorrect control variable name.
  • Controller sampling interval.
  • Tuning-gain, interval time, derivative time, direct ON/OFF.
  • Solution:Control variable name specified by user, and needs to be the cryptic variable. Sampling Time, Tuning (gain is in SI units)
  • Controller Effect:  MV up causes CV down.
  • Most of these can be resolved easily
